The team behind SumUp aims to radically simplify the mobile payment system and make mobile payment easily accessible for small businesses. The company was founded in 2011 and already has over 100 employees, and major offices in London, Berlin and Dublin; SumUp has been available in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Austria since August 2012.

The startup was founded and is led by Daniel Klein, the founder of Moneybookers. In August 2012 SumUp closed a two-digit million Euro Series A funding round. Investors include technology evangelists b-to-v Partners, Shortcut Ventures, Tengelmann Ventures and renowned technology investor Klaus Hommels.

SumUp is a mobile payment service that allows every tradesperson, (taxi driver, handyman, café owner, and many more) to easily accept credit card transactions for their work. The service works with smartphones or tablets by turning these into mobile credit card terminals with the aid of the free app and card reader. Advantages are that users get a free setup, no monthly charges, and low fees per transaction. The users also benefit from direct payouts into their accounts every day and bank-level security.
